About this tool

Drawing names from a hat works until someone asks if it was fair. A random name picker settles that: every name has exactly the same chance, and the draw happens in front of everyone.

Pick one name for whose turn it is, or several at once for a raffle with first, second and third places. Turn on “Don't pick the same name twice” to work through a whole class or team, one draw at a time.

Frequently asked questions

+Is it really random?

Yes. Results come from your browser's secure random number generator (the same kind used for encryption), and are spread evenly. The animation is only for fun; the result is chosen fairly before it plays.

+Can I pick more than one name?

Yes, up to 20 at once. They're listed in the order they were drawn, which works for first, second and third prizes.

+Is my list saved?

Your list stays in this browser tab. To keep it or send it to someone, tap “Share this list” for a link with the names in it.
