About Pass It On: How Far Will This Link Travel?
How far can one link travel? Start a chain with your name and a message, send it to a few friends, and watch what happens. Everyone who opens it adds their name, gets their own personal link, and passes it on. Because every person shares their own link, the chain knows exactly who passed it to whom, so you can follow the journey from the very first share to the newest person, one step at a time.
The journey shows three ways. A live world map draws a line from city to city every time the link moves on, and replays the whole trip from the start. A family tree puts you in the middle and every new generation in a ring around you, with every branch growing from the person who shared it. And “How it reached you” shows each person's exact route: who sent it to whom, from which city, and how many kilometres it travelled. Top spreaders, generations, countries, continents and the farthest point are counted for you, and one tap makes a ready-to-post picture: “This link reached 1,284 people in 41 countries”. Set a goal, set a closing day, and see how far the chain went in the end.
Teachers love it as a geography and digital-citizenship activity: switch on Classroom mode and students join with their first name only, collect continents, see a list of every country reached, and the teacher downloads the results as a spreadsheet. It's a pass it on challenge for friends, classes, teams and communities, it's free, and nobody needs an app. Only an approximate city is shown, and only if each person agrees.

Questions
How does the pass it on challenge work?
You start a chain and share the link. Each person who opens it adds their name and gets their own personal link. When they share it, everyone who joins through it becomes part of their branch, so the chain grows from person to person and you can see exactly how far it travels.
How do you know who passed the link to whom?
Every person gets their own link (it ends with their personal code). Whoever opens that link is joined to the chain under them. If someone forwards the original link instead of their own, the new person is joined to whoever sent that link.
Can teachers use it as a classroom activity?
Yes. Choose Classroom mode: students join with their first name only, the class collects continents and countries, and you can download everyone's name, city, country, continent and generation as a spreadsheet for a geography or maths lesson.
Can I share a picture of how far it went?
Yes. After joining, tap “Share the picture” for a ready-made image with the number of people and countries, the world map of the journey and your own link, sized for stories and chats.
Is my location shown? How accurate is it?
Only if you agree, and only an approximate city worked out from your internet connection, rounded to about 10 km. Your exact location is never asked for or shown. You can join without showing a city at all.
How many people can join a chain?
Up to 5,000 people per chain. The map, the tree and the counts update as people join, and the whole journey can be replayed from the start.
Can the chain end?
Yes. Pick a closing day, or set the link to disappear after a while. After it closes, nobody new can join, and everyone can still see the final journey.
Is it free? Do people need an app?
Yes, it's free. It's a link that opens in any browser, including inside WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger. Nobody needs to sign up.
