About this quiz

Capital cities are a classic test of geography, and full of traps: the biggest city is often not the capital. Sydney isn't the capital of Australia (Canberra is), Istanbul isn't Turkey's (Ankara is), and Toronto isn't Canada's (Ottawa is).

This quiz leaves out countries whose capital is disputed or shared between several cities, so every answer is clear. The wrong options come from neighbouring countries, so a lucky guess is unlikely.

Frequently asked questions

+Which countries are included?

More than 120 countries on every continent. Countries with disputed or shared capitals, like Bolivia or South Africa, are left out so every answer is clear.

+Is the biggest city ever the trick?

Often. Many people pick the largest city, but capitals like Canberra, Ottawa, Ankara and Brasília are not the biggest cities in their countries.

+Can I practise one continent?

Each round mixes all continents. Play a few rounds and you'll see every region.
