About this quiz

Europe has some of the hardest flags to tell apart: the Nordic crosses of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, the red and white of Austria and Latvia, and tricolours that only differ in one colour, like Ireland and Italy, or Romania and Moldova (Moldova adds a coat of arms).

Because every wrong option is also European, you can't guess from the continent. That's why this quiz is the quickest way to learn them for real.

Tips

  • Learn the crosses as a family: red with white (Denmark), red with blue (Norway), blue with yellow (Sweden).
  • Vertical tricolours: green-white-orange is Ireland, green-white-red is Italy.
  • Horizontal red-white-red is Austria; a darker, wider maroon is Latvia.
