How it works

  1. 1Pick a category: animals, food, countries, sports, school, space or Christmas.
  2. 2Tap letters (or type them). Right letters fill the gaps; wrong ones add to the drawing.
  3. 3Find the word before six misses. Your wins and streak are counted; tap “Next word” to keep going.

About this game

Hangman has been a classroom favourite for generations because it quietly practises spelling, letter patterns and vocabulary while feeling like a game. Played on a board or TV, a whole class can play together, shouting letters while one person taps.

Teachers can type their own word list (this week's spellings, science vocabulary, French words) and share it as a link that opens the game with those words. For two players, one types a secret word, hides it, and passes the phone.

Tips

  • Start with vowels (E, A, O, I), then common consonants like T, N, S and R.
  • Look at the word length and the category before your first guess.
  • In class, let each table guess one letter in turn and keep their own score.

Ways to play

Spelling practice
Paste this week's spelling list into “Your word list” and share the link with the class.
Team hangman
Two teams take turns guessing letters; the team that completes the word scores a point.
Hard mode
Only consonants allowed until the first miss.

Frequently asked questions

+How do you play hangman?

One player picks a secret word and shows a blank for each letter. The others guess letters; correct ones are filled in, wrong ones add a part to the drawing. Guess the word before the drawing is complete to win.

+Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Your word list”, type or paste your words, and play. “Share this list” gives you a link that opens hangman with the same words.

+Is it suitable for children?

Yes. The categories are everyday words, and it's great spelling practice from about age six.
